Adia came to the farm as a tiny kitten. She was found by the side of the road in Santa Maria and brought to a vet not doing well. We took her in and made her part of the family. At 16 1/2 she is still a spirited little cat. She wobbles, walking like she has had a few too many drinks, but that does not stop her. She likes to occasionally go outside to roll in the dirt and eat a bit of grass. These days she mostly wants to lay on soft pillows.
Alex is one of the “gang of 8”. He was a feral kitten, but he really didn’t want to be wild. I think he decided to be tame the day he arrived here. Alex is very loving and sweet. He is so good with puppies and has often jumped in the kennel with a litter. He will walk right in and share their food. Alex got bit by a rattlesnake a few years ago and lived through the experience. We hope he remembers and avoids snakes, but probably not.
ANNIE OAKLEAF was a beautiful cat. I don’t remember how she came to live on the farm but she was a little kitten when she arrived. We had Annie for about 9 years. She passed away rather suddenly and we never knew what was wrong.
BEEMER was a big boy. In 2001 we were in Alberta Canada photographing horses. The house sitter called telling us that a woman had shown up with three kittens and told her that we wanted them. We didn’t know that kittens were headed our way, but they became part of the family. Young kittens were raised in the house until they became old enough to be integrated into the outdoor cat family. While living in the house Beemer learned to play fetch. He loved SuperBalls (the ones that bounce like crazy) and he would chase them around until he could get it in his mouth and bring it to us for another toss.
